When I was little, I used to read those "Choose Your Own Adventure" type books. You know: If you choose to fight the dragon, turn to page 56. If you choose to run away in fear, turn to page 87. Those types of books. I recently decided that it would be nice if they had one of those books for different stages of one's life... or life in general. I'm sure the choices in the book of my life would look something like this:
If you choose to take a volleyball scholarship, turn to page ____; if you choose to get the hell out of your parents' house and do whatever the hell you want, turn to page ____.
If you choose to move in with your boyfriend, turn to page ___; if you choose to continue living carelessly single, turn to page ____.
If you choose to get married, turn to page ____; If you choose to run away at the first sign of a red flag, turn to page ___.
If you choose to divorce, turn to page ___; if you choose to stay unhappily married, turn to page ___.
If you choose to keep the baby and try for a "family", turn to page ___; if you choose to keep the baby without the "family" turn to page ___.
Of course, the list would go on and include all those fun minor decisions that go with the big ones: Do you choose to be in a relationship with daddy, or just be friends? Do you file court papers, or just have some sort of (hopefully) amicable agreement?
I used to cheat when I read those books. I would mark the page where I made the monumental decision so that if that particular decision lead to a quick and horrible death, I could go back and "change my mind." It usually bought me at least another day reading the book.
The funny thing about those books is that really, they all seemed to end in an awful and brutal (usually firey) death. At least all the ones I read did.
